Allows Americans to earn paid sick time for personal and family health needs.
The Healthy Families Act mandates that employers provide employees with earned paid sick time. Employers must allow employees to earn at least 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 56 hours per year. Employers can choose to allow more than 56 hours. Paid sick time can be used for personal health issues, medical care, caring for family members, and addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Employers can require certification for absences over 3 consecutive workdays.
