Establishes protections against deed theft in New Jersey.
This bill implements protections against deed theft in New Jersey. It allows government entities to request a stay of proceedings to recover possession or quiet title to real property if there is a pending investigation into theft or fraud in the title or financing of the property. The stay remains in effect until the investigation is resolved. The bill also creates a rebuttable presumption that a deed transfer is fraudulent if the grantee is an entity beneficially owned by a person convicted of a related criminal offense. The court can declare the instrument void if appropriate.
